Description:

These scholarships will be awarded to Lake County, Illinois high school seniors to recognize ability and achievement, and contribution to the community, who plan to purse a career in education.

• $2000 Mary Abbott Scholarship

• $1500 LCRTA Scholarship

The LCRTA Scholarship Committee will select the winners for these scholarships.  The scholarships will be payable at the completion of the first semester of college.

Eligibility and Procedure:

1. Applicants must attend a Lake County public high school. 

2. Applicants must fill in the Lake County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Application Form.

3. Applicants must supply two (2) letters of recommendation:

• One from a high school faculty member;

• One from an adult who is not a relative, but is familiar with the applicant’s participation in the community.

4. Applicants must write an essay on “Why I want a career in education.”

5. Applicants must submit a list of school and community activities.

6. Applicants must provide a copy of their high school transcript.

7. Applications must be received by the stated deadline stated below.
